This historic seaside residence, once the summer palace of Queen Maria of Romania, serves as a multifaceted location blending diverse architectural styles. The complex is defined by tiered stone terraces, cascading waterfalls, and interconnected gardens featuring an eclectic mix of Byzantine, Moorish, and traditional Bulgarian design elements. The grounds include vaulted stone archways, historic stone mills, and lush, varied botanical environments ranging from cactus collections to sheltered courtyard gardens. White stone pathways and rustic outbuildings create an intimate, layered atmosphere overlooking the Black Sea coast.
The site offers varied lighting conditions, from the dappled shade of established tree canopies and vine-covered stone structures to the bright, open exposure of the cliff-side terraces. The inclusion of eclectic decorative features, such as large antique urns and intricate wrought-iron gates, allows for diverse period-piece or narrative settings. Given the site’s status as a protected cultural monument and public botanical garden, productions should anticipate specific access requirements and cordoned areas to preserve the integrity of the landscaping and stone architecture.
